Martial arts can transform both body and mind. As a man, it is your obligation to be able to protect yourself (and your beautiful woman). To do that, martial arts can be a (legal and) fun way to so do.
There are many different forms of martial arts you can choose from and as with many things, it highly depends on what you want.
If you like lots of ground work Brazillian jiu-jitsu, Capoeira and Judo are good options. If you enjoy pushing yourself to the limit and going in hard with full force, I suggest Boxing, Thai boxing, Karate and Krav Maga.
For those who prefer to focus more on technique andspeed, take a look at Kung Fu, Taekwondo, and Ninjitsu.
If you never did any martial arts before prepare yourself.
You will likely be pushed to the edge numerous times and you will feel incapable. This is normal and part of the process. As long as you put in the hours you will improve.
This is the great thing about martial arts. Not only is itvery practical, it also teaches you a lot about (self)discipline, work ethic and perseverence. Try different versions and see which one you like best.
